PRACTICE AREAS

Personal Injury

If you are injured in a vehicular accident, it is possible that you may recover money (damages) for those injuries you sustain.  Factors to be considered are the fault of the parties (liability) how badly you are injured, the amount of medical expenses that you incur, and your loss of earnings, if any.  You may also recover for pain and suffering.

If your case is anything, other than very minor, it is advisable to discuss it with your attorney.  If you do not know a good personal injury attorney or do not know someone who can refer one to you, you can contact your local bar association for a referral.

The attorney will provide you with a consultation, usually without charge.  He or she will want to see the police report if one is available.  You will be asked questions which are designed to help the attorney to analyze your case and to be able to recommend the best course of action for you to take.

If you and your attorney determine that he or she will represent you, you will be asked to sign a retainer agreement.  Such an agreement normally provides that you will be represented on a contingency fee basis.  This means that the attorney will take a percentage (normally one-third) of any amounts recovered from the case.  You will not be charged on an hourly basis for services.

It is important that you not sign any agreements with anyone from the opposing side, including insurance carriers, until you have discussed your case with your attorney.

It is also worthy of note that money, in any sum, cannot compensate for injuries which are not only very painful, but also can interfere with activities of daily life.  In this regard, it is extremely important that you seek immediate and adequate medical care before you do anything else, including contacting an attorney.
